About Courtney
Bio
Courtney is a mom, small business owner, and community volunteer. A West Virginia native, Courtney moved to Silver Lake in 2011 after she and her husband Greg were married. They are parents to two boys who are proud Black Tigers! Courtney has been an active member and officer of the Silver Lake Home and School League since 2019, coordinating book fairs, volunteering in the school library, and planning events for students and families. She even got licensed and served as a substitute teacher during Covid, figuring if lack of substitutes was the difference between trying to do school at home with her kids and having school in session, she might as well go in and watch over a class!
Courtney is a graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in civil engineering and Columbia University with a master's degree in historic preservation. After working as a structural engineer in Washington DC on some of our nation's most treasured landmarks, she shifted to environmental and cultural resource review and compliance as an architectural historian for the West Virginia Department of Transportation. In this role, Courtney worked with engineers, historians, local governments, scientists, local non-profits, and the public to study and evaluate the effects of transportation projects on the environment, including historic buildings and neighborhoods. Courtney started her own consulting firm in 2011 and continues to provide these services to government agencies and other clients, and is also an expert on the National Register of Historic Places and old buildings in general.
In her spare time, Courtney enjoys bicycling, reading, and singing with the Akron Symphony Chorus and the First Congregational Church of Akron choir. She also serves on the Silver Lake Planning Commission and the board of Progress Through Preservation Akron.
